Lockout (2012)

Lockout aka MS One: Maximum Security is a French sci-fi action flick starring Guy Pearce that's supposed to be OK but just a little bit too derivative to win too much praise. Escape from New York...in space, anyone.

Updated to say:  I watched it this week (Feb 2018) and really liked it while it was on but the following morning when I thought about, I felt like I had wasted a bit of my life.  You may feel differently!

  1. I enjoyed the heck out this movie when I saw it. Yes it is derivative of classic Carpenter movies but in the best possible way.

  2. Hew haw -- call me serpent, haven't seen this flick, probably check it out, I'll keep an eye out for stripey jerseys and Gauloises.

  3. If it's classic Carpenter then I'll give it a go. Luc Besson's hand is in there somewhere as well so I'll add it to the list.
    Cheers for the thoughts, chaps

  4. Derivative or not that's some lovely design work. I'll have to check this one out. :) I'm sure you'll agree that even an otherwise lousy film can be worth watching if it's got great visuals. Case in point: Akira Kurosawa's Dreams is a fairly dull and uneven film (the weakest entry in what is arguably the most astounding career in the history of cinema) but the visuals are astonishing--despite its weaknesses there are portions that have the power to mesmerize.

  5. Same here. There's quite few few "lousy" movies I can appreciate simply on the art direction alone.
